Who are we?

Dincer Aktuerk
Consultant at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital

Mr Aktuerk is a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon and
the lead for Minimally Invasive and Robotic Cardiac Surgery
at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, Barts Heart Centre in London.

He is a specialist in minimally invasive and robot assisted mitral
valve repair and coronary artery bypass surgery, operations that
bring patients from across the globe to benefit from his expertise.
These advanced surgical techniques involve accessing the heart
through a keyhole incision rather than conventional open-heart
surgery. This results in a faster recovery time, less post-operative
pain, and reduced scarring.

Mr Aktuerk works in close collaboration with a team of world-renowned
Cardiologists and Cardiac Electrophysiologists across London and the UK
providing seamless access to best quality care that’s tailored specifically for you.

Who are we?

Kelvin Lau
Consultant and Lead Thoracic Surgeon
at St Bartholomew’s Hospital

Kevin Lau qualified from the University of Oxford in 2002. During
his time at Oxford he was awarded a ICRF scholarship to investigate
molecular angiogenesis and vascular targeting of anti-cancer treatment
at the Institute of Molecular Medicine for which he was awarded a
doctorate of philosophy. After his training, he obtained his membership
in 2005, and was awarded the only cardiothoracic surgery national training
number in 2006. He received his training in Glenfield Hospital, Nottingham
and London, and went on to complete a minimally invasive thoracic surgery
fellowship at the Chinese University of Hong Kong where he was then made
honorary assistant professor.

On return to the UK in 2013, he was appointed as the first consultant thoracic surgeon for St. Bartholomew’s Hospital where he set up the thoracic surgery service, introduced VATS lobectomy and endobronchial programmes, and recently, one of the first dedicated 24/7 cardiothoracic robotic surgery programmes in the UK. In November 2015, he led the first team in Europe to successfully use the latest version of navigation bronchoscopy, and went on to do the first in the world endobronchial microwave ablation of  a lung tumour in February 2018.
